PBIS at Harris Elementary

From High Flyers to Positive Office Referrals, below you will find answers to commonly asked questions about how Harris Elementary supports students through PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports).

PBIS is our schoolwide system designed to teach, reinforce, and celebrate positive behavior. At Harris, we focus on helping students be Safe, Respectful, and Responsible — our Big 3 expectations.

Q: What is a High Flyer?

A: A High Flyer is given to students who demonstrate one — or all — of our Big 3 behaviors: Safe, Respectful, and Responsible.

High Flyers recognize positive choices such as:

• Being a role model in line

• Waiting quietly and following directions

• Helping a friend

• Using kind words

• Using equipment safely

• Making responsible choices

Any staff member can give a student a High Flyer when they observe these positive behaviors.

Q: What is a Positive Office Referral?

A: A Positive Office Referral recognizes students who demonstrate our Big 3 expectations — Safe, Respectful, and Responsible — in their classroom and throughout the building.

Positive Office Referrals are celebrated at our Friday Morning Assemblies.

Q: What is a Big 3 Award?

A: At the end of each trimester, we hold a Big 3 Awards Assembly to celebrate students who have consistently demonstrated Safe, Respectful, and Responsible behavior throughout the entire trimester.

Any staff member can nominate a student for a Big 3 Award.
